Erm, I was wondering if you'd let me use this picture as a cover image for a story I'd like to write. I've seen you talk about a potential story you have for it, and it's similar to the one I've been trying to write, which is why I've been chickening out on asking you this for a while now, but if you wouldn't mind...
I might not even actually post the story, and if I did I would of course give you all credit where it's due. I'm honestly just looking for a fine, melancholy piece of adult-Spike art to be able to use.
Aw, go right ahead, man! I have my own little stories, but if people have other ideas for this concept, they can totally go ahead with it! UvU Sorry for the late message, I don't have a lot of time on dA anymore ;0;
Hey, at least he presumably had a full lifetime or half-dozen of hijinx (and the odd amicably-ended relationship) with the Six...and come to think of it, who knows just when Spike finally outgrew the herd in general? Depressing as this may seem at first blush, things could easily have turned out worse.
Aww... I'd always like to think Spike would end up being a sort of guardian for the Sparkle dynasty or even Equestria in it's entirety. I mean having a fully grown dragon in your favor can only be a boon for security. Then again I suppose after his 1st century he might have a fair bit of a melancholy. It's reasonable to think he might want some seclusion for a century or two. Also I'd like to think perhaps Celestia being an eternal herself would console him and attempt to show him the bitter sweet beauty of watching mortals live out good, happy, rich long lives and not to despair. As for people speculating as the lineage of that pony, it's kind of unimportant. It could be any pony but in the end he will still come to the conclusion that making a connection with this nameless pony will only lead to more undue pain.
"A thousand years. I've been up here for a thousand years, ever since the most important person in my life died peacefully in her sleep."
"You reminded me about a pony I once knew... I once loved. She was my greatest friend. When I was no more than a baby, she was like a mother to me. What adventures we had, what joy we had shared with one another when we felt happiness, what comfort we had given for one another when we felt pain."
"She and her friends were heroines, they were all my friends. Even though she was always occupied with having to save the world with them, she was always there for me, through thick and thin..."
"She's gone for more than a thousand years now... the time I had with her could barely be registered in my lifetime. And yet the memory I had of her will never fade from my mind... because there isn't a day when I or the Princesses had not missed her. And because out of everything else I have in my hoard - books, gems, gold - she would always be the most precious to me..."
"There's no need to feel sorry for me, young mare. Come close if you want... I would like a company like her again. My own fires are nothing compare a friend could give me."
"What's her name? Her name was... Twilight Sparkle. Tell me, what is your's?"
This is my greatest fear for Spike. Dragons are supposed to live for thousands upon thousands of years and nothing lives forever, not even the sun. The thought that Spike may eventually watch everyone he cares for die before him saddens me. His friends through the Mane Six and maybe even the Princesses could die before him and because dragons live so long and are generally difficult to kill means that Spike could potentially live through many generations of descendants. But that gives the thought that maybe Spike would watch over the future generations.
I never specifically said the words, in an equivalent of an eye-blink for Spike. Spike, in my opinion, still has a sense of time similar to that of the ponies, but just will live longer than many decades, maybe even centuries, longer than the others. Maybe as a memory, the non-princess ponies would seem to age and die in an eye-blink, but as I said earlier, Spike seems to perceive time just as any other pony. An eye-blink for Spike would be an eye-blink for Pinkie-Pie and Applejack.
